Lumen had the pleasure and honour to facilitate a session on Authentic Female Leadership with some of Kenya’s inspiring talent. These female leaders represented a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, (impact) investing, consultancy and hospitality.
A warm thank you to the participants for the energising discussions and insightful anecdotes. Also a big hand to Maggie Ireri, for co-facilitating and sharing powerful examples from your personal experience. Lastly, many thanks to Justin Macharia and Chris Kandie for the organisation of the event.
Some topics that we touched during this interactive session;
– To have the desired impact, how do you strike the balance, being authentic while tailoring your style to the situation?
– What’s your journey in strengthening your – authentic – leadership approach, deepening your awareness of self and others?
– While dealing with stigma and societal expectations, how do you manage challenges like:
- being firm and decisive while building productive relationships
- handling derogative behaviour
- building trust in a highly competitive environment
- managing the ‘solitude at the top’
- supporting other female talent on their professional paths
– What’s the critical role females play in decision making at management team and board level, based on research and your personal experience
Some of the above topics we discussed more deeply, others need further exploration. Plenty food for thought for the next opportunity to meet! Asanteni sana!
