Leadership and Team Effectiveness Training and Coaching

JTI Ethiopia’s 125+ employees have received team training and coaching. Katerina Lapshynova (HR Director) shared the following:

“The workshops facilitated brought good energy. We laughed when colleagues recognised themselves and each other in the behaviours of certain Colour Energies. Besides that, some team members were very excited about the accuracy of their personality profiles. Sharing experiences and mutual feedback helped the bonding in the team. I personally also much appreciate the shared language that we now have at our disposal to address desirable and undesirable behaviours.

A highlight during the workshop was the team sharing feedback on each other’s strengths / weaknesses / blind spots. This led to revelations and learnings, relevant for our work context. Many of the learnings came back in the objectives set at a personal level, which provided valuable insights for management to further guide and develop the team members.

Another important exercise was when the team stood on the Colour Energies mat, each person in their own colour preference. We witnessed the differences between our preferences / behaviours and took time to discuss the impact on our cooperation and communication. The team then defined opportunities for improvement which resulted in team agreements to help us strengthen our cooperation, wellbeing and motivation.”

All four Meliá properties in Tanzania: senior and mid management receive leadership and team coaching

Combining profound learning with good energy, team members gain deeper insights into themselves and others (using input from personality assessments).  What areas are going well and which weaknesses and blind spots need more attention to get the best from each other and make people shine. They learn about tools and techniques to recognise the communication preference of colleagues and guests, and to adapt their style accordingly to better connect with others.

Individuals set personal objectives which they share with each other, for example:

  • “I’ll be more accommodating and put myself in other peoples’ shoes to understand situations better.”
  • “I want to be more sociable, create a better team spirit.”
  • “I will focusing less on personal and more on company interests.”
  • “I will be less protective of my ideas.”
  • “I want to take things less personally.”
  • “I will stop interrupting people, stop pre-judging, instead listening to them.”

The teams also define team agreement to strengthen cooperation and performance, for instance:

  • We proactively share knowledge and experience, 1-on-1 and during daily kick-offs.
  • We help other HoDs when we see something happening in their team.
  • “You see it, you own it, you fix it”: active + now
  • We take action when needed, not after the fact.
  • We communicate clearly and set expectations from the start.
